Ukrainian combat aircraft shot down two superior Russian warplanes in a “fierce” battle over the Kyiv region, the country’s military claimed.
Both Russian Su-35S jets were destroyed and one of two Ukrainian MiG-29s survived the dogfight, said the general directorate of the military, which added: “So far, the enemy predominates in the number and quality of the aircraft and weaponry, but not the skills.”
Ukraine said the MiGs were supported by missiles from a Soviet-era S-300 anti-aircraft system. “As a result, both aircraft of the occupiers were destroyed,” its statement said.
