Trigger Point spoilers follow.

Whoopsie! Trigger Point star Adrian Lester came under fire on Twitter after he posted a VERY spoilery tweet that gave a whole lot away before a lot of people got chance to catch up.

The actor, who plays Joel Nutkins on the show – which also stars Line of Duty's Vicky McClure – spoke a little too soon on his Twitter page when he revealed his character's fate.

"THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW - Froze to Death RIVIERA- Blown up. DOOMSDAY - Shot in the back with Arrows TRIGGER POINT - Blown up. This job is killing me," he jokingly tweeted on Monday (January 24), the morning after the first episode of Trigger Point aired, according to Yahoo!.

After getting some backlash from Twitter users for revealing his character was "blown up", Lester deleted the message and replaced it with one that read: "Ahem….. Seems my last one might have been a little 'too soon.'"

As for if his character is actually dead, though? Well, we're not sure about that one. The final scene of the pilot episode saw Joel blown up by an explosive after discovering there was a bomb in a nearby van, though it didn't explicitly confirm if he was dead.

It definitely seemed like it could have been curtains for the character though (he was involved in a major explosion after all!), but could it all be a red herring?

Well, yes and no.

While he could survive, it's equally possible we've seen the last of Joel, as one thing we know about executive producer Jed Mercurio is that he's more than willing to kill any character off at any time (just look at Line of Duty!). That's something Lester himself made very clear to us here at Digital Spy earlier this month.

"I think one of the fun things is that people don't know what's going to happen next. Daniel [Brierley]'s script keeps the audience on their toes, drip-feeds the information as all good thrillers should and stays one step ahead of them," he explained.

"And you have to truly believe that you don't know what's going to happen next and truly believe in the main threat that your characters are facing, otherwise it's boring," he continued, noting, "you definitely have a feeling that something bad could happen to somebody at some point".

Consider our interest piqued!

Trigger Point continues this Sunday (January 30) on ITV.
