Tannoy announcements on trains to be silenced as passengers complain they’re ‘annoying and repetitive’

“ANNOYING and repetitive” Tannoy announcements on trains are to be silenced.

Passengers have complained for years about the constant announcements, calling them “pure noise pollution”.

One commuter said they were “very irritating, repetitive, silly, sometimes painfully loud”.

Another said security statements such as “See it, say it, sorted” were “inane and over-frequent”.

And another said: “Why are modern trains so noisy?

“You get bombarded with constant automated announcements and buzzers going off every time the doors open and close.

Trains survived without these for years and people managed to get on and off without difficulty.”

The Government pledged last year to simplify the announcements to provide a “single source of truth” as part of a plan to improve the railway experience.

Officials also mulled over introducing regional dialects — but rejected that as impractical.

An official announcement is now expected within days.

But Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said: “Do they expect the passengers being priced off our railways by a brutal fare hike, or unable to catch a train because of service cuts, to be grateful that the service they can no longer afford or access has fewer announcements?

“The Tories are totally out of touch with the country’s priorities.”
