has been struggling with postal delays over the past weeks due to a range of different issues, some of which are Covid-related. Staff shortages up and down the country have meant some Britons have had to wait weeks for their mail.

Royal Mail has said it is doing its best to deliver parcels throughout the UK, but there are several areas in the country which are currently affected by late deliveries.

The company has updated its website to inform customers about the current state of its service.

It said that its air, rail, and rod networks have been operating to schedule over the last 24 hours.

However, some mail centres are currently facing issues.

Royal Mail said: “The mail centres below reported not all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the last 24 hours, and as a result some mail may be delivered slightly later than expected.”

It added: “South Midlands Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in the CV, LE, MK and NN postcode areas, due for delivery today to addresses across the rest of the UK.

“Swindon Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday across the rest of the UK, due for delivery today to addresses in the OX, RG and SN postcode areas.”

As for deliveries, the company explained they are “operating as normal across most of the country today”.

But, it continued: “In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as Covid-related self-isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

Royal Mail customers have taken to social media over the last 24 hours to express their frustration with the postal delays affecting them.

Peter Greenford tweeted: “@RoyalMail amazed two parcels on 48hr delivery from two different postmen and both never arrived? Unprecedented staff off May cause delays? Funny I’m working on behalf of Amazon and DHL and no delays. Difference other two don’t pay high sick pay and have low sick rate? Strange, no?”

Simon Freathy wrote: “@RoyalMailHelp hi, are there known delays/issues with deliveries to PO4. We are waiting for three parcels for nearly two weeks all sent Royal Mail? Thanks.”

Jill Anderson commented: “Today I received a Xmas card posted 6th December. Last year Royal Mail paid their shareholders 400 million while our local depot chose not to take on extra staff coming up to Xmas for the first time ever (and blame delays on Covid). Amazing how well privatisation is working out.”

Twitter user @Oheemaa_x added: “This Royal Mail postal delay is extremely jarring. Things that were dispatched by the supplier on 4th Jan, still haven’t been delivered.”
