Since wielding a wand at Hogwarts, Daniel Radcliffe has tried to distance himself from the schoolboy role of Harry Potter. He has been Allen Ginsberg and a sentient corpse, not to mention a drug-smuggling pilot. Now he is to play Weird Al Yankovic, who is better known for wielding an accordion.

Radcliffe, 32, has signed up for the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which follows the Grammy-winning musician’s career. Yankovic is known for parodies of hit songs including Eat It, based on Michael Jackson’s Beat It, and Like A Surgeon, which sends up Madonna’s Like A Virgin.

Yankovic, 62, said he was “absolutely thrilled” Radcliffe would portray him in the biopic, which will be shown on the streaming service Roku.
