The gun used by a British terrorist who held four worshippers captive at a synagogue in Texas has been traced to a legal sale in 2020.

Officials are trying to piece together the movements of Malik Faisal Akram, 44, after he landed in New York late last year and travelled roughly 1,500 miles to the Dallas area.

Akram, from Blackburn, Lancashire, spent time at homeless shelters before knocking on the door of the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue on Saturday and taking hostages after they had invited him in to shelter from the cold. All four captives escaped unhurt and Akram was shot and killed by the FBI after an 11-hour stand-off.
