The dog home where Stacey Solomon rescued her new pet pooch Teddy from has hit back at criticism they’ve received for allowing the Loose Women star to adopt from them.

Taking to Instagram, Pro Dogs Direct said that Stacey has “followed the adoption process”.

Stacey showed off her new pup on her own Instagram and said Teddy had “rescued” her as she shared snaps of him with her other dog Peanut and her son Rex, two.

She also gave a shout out to Pro Dogs Direct on her Instagram Story and wrote: “I really wanted to share the people we adopted Teddy from because they have been so amazing and just for people to know about them would mean so so much to them and the dogs they rescue.

"We adopted Teddy from @prodogsdirect Donna the lady who runs it has been so incredible… I started talking to her not long after Theo passed away”.

Hitting back at the criticism, which included many questioning how Stacey was able to adopt a rescue dog when she has young children, Pro Dogs Direct shared: “Yes we have re homed one of our dogs to @staceysolomon and her family.

“Yes she followed our adoption process, yes she completed an application form, yes her home was vetted, and no she didn’t adopt a dog in 24 hours.

“It is so very sad that the minority cannot be happy that a rescue dog has found a great home where he will be loved and looked after – we couldn’t be happier for Teddy and his new family.”

Teddy has become a new addition to Stacey’s family after she lost her 11 year old dog Theo on Boxing Day.

Many questioned how Stacey was able to adopt a dog so quickly, while others were confused about how the 32 year old was able to re-home a rescue dog when most dogs aren’t able to be in homes with young children.

As well as Rex, Stacey is also mum to baby daughter Rose, three months, and sons Zachary, 13, and Leighton, nine.

One follower wrote: “This is great and all, im sure he will be really loved with you guys. But I went to the dog rescue a few weeks ago and they told us anyone with children under 6 aren’t allowed to have a rescue dog?

"I have two kinds under 6 so couldn’t give a rescue dog a loving home after losing our beloved boxer to cancer last year.”

Another replied: “sadly your not a celebrity with loads of money and can give the rehomers lots of publicity”.

Presenter Stacey ignored the negativity and continued to share sweet snaps of Teddy bonding with Peanut and her young family, including one of Rex cuddled up with the two pups.
