Hailey, Rosie & Kendall Are Mapping Out The New ‘Countryfile’ Trend

While some rang in 2022 in super slinky party dresses that would have made Paris Hilton blush (Dua Lipa, need you ask?), other stars retreated to the countryside to show off a different kind of New Year’s style. More classic than Y2K, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner enveloped themselves in outdoor gear that would have done any discerning rambler proud – one with a penchant for Vetements, that is.

Huntington-Whiteley shared a series of social postcards from her new life in the rolling hills, complete with a Landy and binoculars for bird watching. Dressed as a luxe explorer in a waxed brown cotton Totême coat and a black Emma Brewin furry hat, the only questionable part of Rosie’s hiking look was her Sorel Joan of Arctic wedge boots. Need we say more?

Also roving her way through fields, rather than on dancefloors at the end of December, was Hailey, who swapped model selfies for donkey snaps. Yes, really. Proving that Vetements jeans and Fendi Oxfords are not just a city girl’s uniform, Bieber made Countryfile chic work for her, with added Saint Laurent sunnies and Eterne basics.

Kendall also refreshed the #cottagecore trend that reigned supreme during the pandemic by way of Source Unknown patchwork knits and Hunter wellies. The Gen-Z twist to her Upstate uniform came via The North Face’s Thermoball Eco Traction mules and bottles of her own 818 tequila, which is surely not how things go down at Balmoral.

While the 2022 trend headlines would have us bracing ourselves for a year of unabashedly sexy fashion, the world’s biggest influencers are doubling down on cosy investments that arguably have more longevity than rhinestones (the Queen has been wearing her beloved waxed Barbours, which are only a stone’s throw from Rosie’s outerwear, for decades).

“This product doesn’t feel driven by trend or time, it feels collectible,” Libby Page, senior market editor at Net-a-Porter, previously told Vogue of the industry’s renewed appreciation of artisanship over flash-in-the-pan fashion. “The pieces all tell their own stories.” Wondering whether to step off the Y2K bus and try something more wholesome this January? These top models have already mapped out the way.
