Back in 2015, Nikkie de Jager – also known as NikkieTutorials – posted a video on YouTube titled The Power of Makeup. In it, Nikkie applies makeup to half of her face to show how transformative makeup can be. The video quickly went viral and today, sits at a casual 42,500,000+ views.
Since then, Nikkie has invited Kim Kardashian and Drew Barrymore onto her YouTube channel to get half of their makeup done. Now, Nikkie has posted the next video in her 'Power of Makeup' series, and it features none other than Adele. Yep, A-D-E-L-E. Adele and Nikkie. Two legends. The power duo we never knew we needed.
The video begins with Nikkie (understandably) freakin’ out and Adele telling the YouTuber to ‘cover that spot’ – the kind of relatable content we live for.
The first thing we have to mention is just how beautiful Adele looks without any makeup on. We’re so used to seeing the incredible singer rocking gorgeous glam looks on stage and she's rarely seen without her iconic winged eyeliner, but in the beginning of the video she’s fresh-faced and glowing.
While they spoke about lots of different topics throughout the 30-minute video, they touch on Adele and her thoughts on beauty – and some of them will make you feel like the singer is a mate you've known your whole life.
For starters, Adele revealed that she loves her nails so much and that she would have to take them off when playing the guitar on tour. I don't have a clue how to play guitar but I completely get it.
‘I think a brow and a nail and you’re ready to go,” the singers says. "I can’t do lip liner to save my life. They just get bigger and bigger if I do it myself". Nikkie then quickly chucks her lip liner across the room. Absolute lols.
Sipping on some white wine (really gutted I wasn’t invited to this get together, tbh), the pair move onto eyebrows. “If I don’t dye my brows – these are dyed – I look like Voldemort,” explains Adele. “They go so pale and blonde.”
“I actually learnt how to dye my own brows in the pandemic,” she explains. “So I used to go like every week because I really am fair and one day I did a load of research, watched a load of YouTube videos, ordered all the products on Amazon. I do it once a week on my own now.” See, guys? Celebs were also frantically Googling and YouTubing how to do all those beauty treatments at home, too.
Then, the tutorial moved onto the moment of truth: eyeliner. Nikkie begins to slowly begin sketching on Adele’s eyeliner.
“it’s quite scary doing the eyeliner,” says Adele with her eyes closed. “I feel like my eyeliner is quite famous.”
“Can you not say that right now as I’m doing it?!” a nervous Nikkie replies. If Queen’s Under Pressure was ever the soundtrack for a particular moment, it would be this.
Of course, Nikkie absolutely nails it though.
Once Nikkie is happy with the makeup, she hands a mirror to Adele who inspects her half-covered face. “WOW, that’s wild – I look like the Joker, in a great way,” the singer says. “That’s amazing.”
I mean, can you just imagine having Adele tell you that you’ve done an ‘incredible’ job on her makeup? Thank you bringing this type of wholesome content into our lives, ladies.
