Little Mix announce break after 10 years in Instagram post

Overnight Little Mix posted a lengthy Instagram video that detailed the next step for the band. Although they have recently spoken out about not breaking up anytime soon, their post confirms they will be "taking a break" from the band.

Little Mix wrote on their Instagram account: "We wanted to let you all know that after the Confetti tour in April/May next year we are going to be taking a break from Little Mix.

"It’s been 10 amazing years, a wonderful non-stop adventure, and we feel the time is right to take a break so we can recharge and work on some other projects."

They added: "We are not splitting up - Little Mix are here to stay. We have plans for more music, tours and performances in the future. We’ve made so many incredible memories with you all, and we can’t wait to make so many more."

The band originally formed in 2011 when they appeared on ITV music competition X Factor.

The quartet - Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson - were put together by X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos.

Since forming, the band have embarked on six tours, with their seventh (Summer 2020) being cancelled, and their eighth (Confetti Tour) upcoming. Little Mix's dedicated fans are not convinced this will be a temporary break, however. One fan compared the girl band's break to One Direction's, who infamous went on a hiatus in 2015 and never returned. They wrote: "just hoping little mix doesn't go 1D and split up :)." (sic)

Another fan raged: "I honestly don’t believe a word you say, because every time you been asked if your going on break or breaking up when the tours done you said no, so honestly I don’t trust this is temporary plus like every other band before you that went like this they got too comfortable." (sic)

A third fan posted to Little Mix on Twitter: "'Little Mix is taking a break' yes in their statement it said that they are not breaking up but just saying One Direction said the same thing and now look years later and they still on a 'break' just saying don’t believe a statement I hope they do come back but doubt they will."

Despite this doubt, many fans do believe Little Mix will be getting back together in the near future.

One hopeful wrote: "I think the girls actually want to come back after some years, I do believe they'll release a single from time to time. They love each other, they love Little Mix. Now they get their deserved break, may they use it like they want to. We'll be there, waiting for them, always." (sic)

Another fan said: "little mix taking a break is over okay. 2/3 had babies, they’ve worked NON stop, I do believe they’ll be back, I’m still vvvvvv f*****g sad about it." (sic)

The band continued their statement by praising their fans and the support they have provided over the past decade.

They wrote: "We can’t thank you enough for your love and never-ending support since the beginning. We love you all SO much."

Little Mix added: "We’re sisters and we’ll always have each other and you, the fans, in our lives. Little Mix is forever. See you on tour! Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie x

Earlier this month the band were asked by Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp about those split rumours. Edwards was keen to clear the air.

She said at the time: "Look, listen, Little Mix is forever isn’t it. I think no matter what Little Mix do, whether we venture out individually, whatever we do, Little Mix is forever, like Jade said.

"We’ll always stick together, we’ll always tour, we’ll always do things together as a group, because, Little Mix is just, it’s fire. And I hate to say it, what we have is something special and we know that, and we know that Little Mix as the three of us is so so strong."
