Alec Baldwin was spotted back in New York dining with wife Hilaria, weeks after retreating to Vermont following his accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins last month.

The couple were spotted Sunday evening as they ate outdoors at their favorite Italian restaurant and celebrity hotspot Il Cantinori in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.

Baldwin, 63, looked tired and a bit worse for wear as he talked with his yoga instructor wife at their outdoor table around 9pm, according to onlookers.

He wore a black coat and had his hair unkempt, while mom-of-six Hilaria looked casual in a patterned flannel sweater.

The embattled actor has been keeping a low profile after accidentally firing the gun that killed the cinematographer on the set of his film Rust in New Mexico on October 21.

'We were very surprised to see him out because we knew he hasn't been seen in public [in New York] since the accident,' an onlooker at the restaurant told DailyMail.com.

'He looked very rough and not very polished. He seemed very sullen.'

The eyewitness said the couple were not approached during their meal since the restaurant was largely empty.

The outing marks the first time the Baldwins have been seen together in New York since retreating to Manchester, Vermont, where they were staying in a hideaway rental with their six children while the investigation in Santa Fe continues.

On Tuesday the actor was back to promoting his podcast, Here's the Thing, which appeared to be on hiatus due to the tragic accident.

Baldwin took to Instagram to ask followers to tune into his latest episode with children's author and illustrator Marla Frazee.

'She is also the true talent behind Boss Baby, the business-suit-wearing, hard-charging infant who changed my life. In this episode, Marla tackles serious topics such as babies, birthday cake, boxer shorts, boys, and roller coasters. Listen now at the link in my bio,' he wrote.

Baldwin, who had been shooting the upcoming western film in New Mexico, was told the prop gun he was rehearsing with on set was 'cold', or safe to use, according to the Santa Fe county sheriff's office.

But tragedy unfolded when he fired the weapon and it turned out to be loaded with live rounds, killing Hutchins and injuring film director Joel Souza.

Baldwin released a statement expressing his 'shock and sadness regarding the accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.'

'I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family,' he said.

'My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.'

The Hollywood actor has since urged film and TV productions to hire police officers to monitor weapons and ensure guns used in filming are safe.

Unionized workers had walked off the set hours before the fatal shooting, after they complained about long hours, shoddy conditions and another safety incident days earlier involving 'two misfires' of a prop weapon.

Alec has since told reporters he doesn't think production will resume.

No one has been charged over the fatal accident but Santa Fe County Sheriff's office said 'no one' had been ruled out.

Last week the Baldwins were spotted numerous times as they tried to lay low in New England in the midst of the controversy and heightened scrutiny.

But the couple faced further backlash on Halloween after Hilaria posted what critics called 'tasteless' and 'inappropriate' holiday photos of their family on the heels of the tragic shooting.

'Parenting through this has been an intense experience, to say the least,' Hilaria, 37, wrote on Instagram Sunday.

'Today, we rallied to give them a holiday. Last min costumes…a little hodge-podge…but they were so happy and that warmed my mama heart.'

The family most recently were forced to deal with another mishap after their beloved cat Emilio went missing last Tuesday while they were in Vermont.

Hilaria, 37, took to Instagram to ask the public to keep an eye out for the furry feline which had joined the family as a kitten in April.

'We can't find our cat, Emilio. If anyone sees him, please help him get home. We are all so upset. He's microchipped but no collar,' she wrote, sharing a photo of the cat alongside infant daughter Maria Lucia.

She updated followers later that afternoon, confirming they have been reunited with the furry feline, which seemed to have suffered a broken leg.

'We found him. Thank you to all of those who helped. I'm so grateful, beyond words,' she wrote alongside a photo of the cat in a travel carrier.

'Emilio seems to have a broken leg, but he is alert. Fingers crossed he will pull through.'

Hilaria gave a shoutout to those who helped bring their missing pet home, but not without taking a dig at 'the paparazzi' and the media, who she accused of chasing and hounding the couple.

'I won't mention you because the paparazzi and tabloid media are calling every single connection to us, and I don't want you to be harassed too, in their frenzy to make more money,' she continued.
