Gogglebox welcomed brother and sister duo Simon and Jane on Friday evening as they took their seats for the Channel 4 show.

The popular Friday night programme has seen a lot of loss in terms of cast members in recent months.

But the latest episode saw some good news in the form of new cast members Simon and Jane.

The siblings from North London were on hand to give out their critiques to programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Love Trap and You on Netflix.

Fans quickly were taken by the pair, with one sharing on Twitter: ‘Loving the new brother and sister. #gogglebox.’

‘Oh wow a new couple just what we need after the sad losses recently good luck and welcome to them #Gogglebox,’ agreed another.

A third wrote: ‘A new couple on #c4gogglebox and they’ve got shelves full of books! Hallelujah – I’ve always wondered how the goggleboxers managed to live without them.’

‘Love these two already. Can’t wait to see more of them as the series goes on,’ shared a fourth viewer.

In recent weeks there was an exit for Paige Deville, who told viewers she was leaving the Channel 4 amid a falling out with her mum.

Earlier this year, fans were left gutted when cast members Andy Michaels, 61, and Mary Cook, 92, died within a week of each other.

Bristolian Mary was a regular on the TV series with best friend Marina Wingrove, first appearing in 2016 from the retirement village where they met. Their scenes were filmed from Mary’s living room.

Just days later, it was confirmed Andy had died after a short illness, with his family by his side.

So the newcomers to the show will no doubt have come as a lovely surprise to viewers, hopefully paving the way for more new armchair critics.

With the clear potential for more families to join the crop of UK’s most-loved TV critics, it was recently suggested there could be room for a Scottish family to come on board.

Channel 4’s chief executive Alex Mahon addressed this last month after Scottish Conservative leader leader Douglas Ross raised his concerns over the show not yet having on its line-up.

He said: ‘It would be better to have a Scottish family, I know from previously investigating. We haven’t yet both found a family and superseded our production difficulties on it

‘But it is a goal for us to do that and I think you are right to flag there is a lack of representation on that show.’

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
