For the past couple of months, we’ve seen Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian become pretty good pals. From hanging out on a rooftop together watching their respective partners Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker play music to referring to them as their “baby daddies” at the MTV VMAs. Along the way, we’ve been completely obsessed with this dynamic.

So, you can imagine just how wild everybody went when Skims dropped its latest photoshoot, featuring Megan and Kourtney in their underwear and feeding each other fruit.

While it’s easy to get distracted by their faces and the way they’re sharing an apple (just slice it in half, guys), there’s something else that caught my eye: their matching green manicures.

At first glance, I thought it was purely a trend thing. This bright, vibrant shade of green – now known as “Bottega Green”, after being made popular recently by fashion label Bottega Veneta – is everywhere.

But, as Instagram account Kardashian Kolloquium points out, Megan and Kourtney's choice of nail polish might not be as straight-forward as that. Especially when you consider the fact that so many of the Kardashians’ moves are so cleverly calculated. Or should I say Kleverly Kalculated, lol.

In a video dissecting the Skims shoot, MJ Corey, writer and mastermind behind the Instagram account, says: “I’m also very curious about the green fingernails. What’s that about? What do we think?”

And boy, did people have a lot of (very interesting) thoughts.

One person thought it might have just been a seasonal thing, writing: “Green nails are def sketchy….perhaps a Christmas or Halloween shoot took place during/before/after ???”.

Another Instagram user replied: “I instantly thought of “green with envy” when I saw them for some reason” while another said: “I thought of their hands touching money? Lol”.

One of my favourite comments theorised that the nails could be part of a wider Adam and Eve theme. They wrote: “after looking at the other pictures, there’s definitely a “forbidden fruit”, adam and eve vibe going on here. maybe playing on “dangerous” femininity? the green nails could be a subtle nod to the serpent 🐍 ??also was balls deep in hieronymous bosch paintings yesterday, coincidentally 💁🏻‍♀️”

I mean, it could be true??

While we don’t have a confirmed reason behind the green nails, there’s definitely some kind of hidden meaning at play.

One thing’s for sure though: we all know which colour we’ll be requesting at our next manicure appointment.
