Netflix's Virgin River has had us all hooked since the third series landed on the streamer in 2021. In classic fashion, we binged it, we obsessed about it and then we started praying to the Netflix gods for another season. Well, it looks like we're in luck, as not only is season four on the cards, but a season five too!

on 11th July 2022, fans were treated to their first look at Virgin River season 4, and of course it looks *incredibly* dramatic. In it, we see the arrival of Jack's father, who he clearly feels some animosity towards, and also the arrival of a handsome new doctor. Ooh.
What is Virgin River season 4's release date?
Big news! As of mid-May 2022, Netflix confirmed the release date for season four of Virgin River, and it's probably coming sooner than you think. Mark Wednesday 20th July in your diaries people, because that's when new episodes are landing! Eek.
Previously, What's on Netflix confirmed: "We’re currently predicting that Virgin River season 4 should return in 2022 with it most likely being in Q2-Q3 2022 (anywhere between April and July 2022)."
When was Virgin River S4 confirmed?
In mid-September 2021, Netflix announced a fourth *and* fifth season would be coming soon as part of their commitment to "comfort" viewing.
Jinny Howe, Netflix's VP of original series, told USA Today: "[With] everything that's been going on in the world, people more and more [are] looking for, not just that comfort, but also that feeling of hope and that feeling of community.
"All of that really came together in a way that was really organic, and I think this was more of a proof point that this is a really vital area of programming for us."

What's going to happen in Virgin River S4?
Where to even begin? When we left Mel and Jack at the end of series 3 there were some big questions left unanswered. The biggest one being, who is the father of Mel's unborn baby? It could still be Jack's - although we're not too confident - and may more likely be the child of her late husband Mark.
The good news is that showrunner Sue Tenney told TV Line back in July that was something we'd find out "by the end of the fourth season." Which is as good as an official confirmation, right?
And, even bigger news, teaser photos released by Netflix in mid-May 2022 revealed Hope (played by Annette O'Toole) survived the car crash.
As the official synopsis reveals, "Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark, or Jack, Mel begins season four with a sense of optimism. For years she yearned to be a mother and her dream is one step closer to reality.
"While Jack is supportive and excited, the question of paternity continues to gnaw at him. Complicating matters is the arrival of a handsome new doctor, who's in the market to start a family of his own. Hope is still healing from her car accident, and the lingering psychological effects of her brain injury will have profound consequences for both her and Doc.
"Brie, intent on proving the innocence of the man she loves, unexpectedly finds herself in a closer relationship with Mike and one step closer to Calvin's violent criminal web. Even as Preacher forges a new romantic connection, he can't help but hold out hope for being reunited with Christopher and Paige."
Who has been cast in Virgin River S4?
All the main cast - Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), John (Colin Lawrence), Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), Hope (Annette O'Toole) and Doc (Tim Matheson) will back for a fourth instalment, and fans are hoping there will be some new faces joining the line up too.
What have the cast and crew said about Virgin River s4?
In February of 2022, Jack actor Martin Henderson revealed he season four was in post-production, and he was recording voiceovers. "Back at work…getting season 4 good and ready for consumption," he wrote on Instagram.
Showrunner Sue Tenney also told TV Insider, "There’s a big reveal when we open season 4 that puts certain people in jeopardy," while she also spilled to EW that Hope will survive her car accident. "We do move ahead. To us, it's [about] the recovery and what she's dealing with—a traumatic brain injury."
As for Jack? "I always wanted it to be a slow burn," she continued to Entertainment Weekly. "I liked the idea of putting Jack in a vulnerable situation, which is he can't remember something simple." And to TV Insider, she shared: "The person who pulled the trigger and wanted him dead are the same person, but Calvin and Jimmy and the failed raid in Season 2 and him getting shot all intersect with all the rest of it."
