PIERS MORGAN has taken aim at British diver, Tom Daley, who was caught knitting during a recent Olympic Games event.

Tokyo 2020: Tom Daley and Matty Lee win gold

Piers Morgan is known for being outspoken and often doesn’t hold back with his blistering verbal attacks. Now, it appears he has taken a swipe at Tom Daley, who was caught on camera doing something other than observing an Olympic Games diving event.

Here is Tom Daley doing his knitting during the women's 3m diving final.

Tom, 27, was sat in the stands watching the women’s three-metre diving final when the eagle-eyed camera crew caught him knitting.

The diver has been vocal over the past year, citing that learning to knit and crochet has helped him "so much through these Olympics".

However, in view of his 7.9 million Twitter followers, Piers was quick to have his say.

The dad-of-four penned: "People attacked me for saying nobody cares about these Olympics (for reasons beyond control of the athletes)."

He continued: "Here is Tom Daley doing his knitting during the women's 3m diving final.

"I rest my case."

However, many were quick to leap to Tom’s defence in the replies section of Piers’ tweet, that has since racked up over 6,000 likes.

"If you followed my knitting alt you’d know that knitting is actually a brilliant stress reliever, clearly Daley is actually beside himself with excitement for the diving final and is doing some knitting to calm his nerves," said one.

Before a second added: "He's already said knitting calms his nerves. Why do you continue to try to belittle people who've achieved so much; it smacks of sour grapes."

"He has found a stress reliever. Maybe you should try it yourself," commented a third.

While another tweeted: "He acknowledges it's a way for him to take care of his mental health Piers…"

"Thanks, Piers. I might otherwise have missed this charming photo of a doting husband, father and gold medal Olympian taking a break between dives. What a credit to Britain, and an example to other young men, he is," stated a fifth.

Dad-of-one Tom recently revealed that he had knitted a case for his Olympic gold medal.

In a clip shared to his Instagram account on Tuesday, he said: "I don't normally post things that are not necessarily knitting related on my 'Made With Love' page, but myself and Matty, my synchro partner, won the Olympics yesterday.

"I thought I would come on here to just say the one thing that has kept me sane through this whole process is my love for knitting and crocheting and stitching."

Tom and partner Matty Lee won their first Olympic gold in the men's synchronised 10-meter platform event.

Just last week, Piers, 56, claimed that nobody "cares about these covid-ravaged Olympics" and also hit out at Simone Biles.

It came after the latter announced she would be withdrawing from the Tokyo 2020 games in order to prioritise her mental health.

The former Good Morning Britain anchor claimed Simone’s reasoning was "a joke" after she said, "we have to protect our minds and our bodies and not just go out and do what the world wants us to do".

Now, it appears that nobody is safe from Piers who was less than impressed with Gold medalist Tom.
