The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are well underway and there have been lots of gold medals being given out all over the place.
Whilst we’re used to seeing such events as this take place, one thing we aren’t accustomed to seeing is any wardrobe malfunctions due to the strict rules that the athlete’s have to follow.
Unfortunately, throughout history there have been some people who haven’t been able to prevent an unexpected accident or two during their sport.
There has already been on mishap at this year's olympics as Hugarian Swimmer Kristof Milak lost out in setting a new world record due to a rip in his swimming shorts.
Luckily for him the rip was along the hem of his shorts and not in another area.
Speaking to the BBC he explained: "They split 10 minutes before I entered the pool and in that moment I knew the world record was gone. I lost my focus and knew I couldn't do it."
Just like Kristof there have been many that have been in his position.
Gabriella Papadakis
During the 2018 Winter Olympics, French figure skater Gabriella Papadakis was doing her routine with her partner when all of a sudden her costume came undone.
Without giving it a second thought, Gabriella continued to perform, making sure that this wouldn’t get the better of her.
Alex and Maia Shibutani
There seems to be a pattern forming here...at the 2014 Winter Olympics there was once again another wardrobe malfunction for two figure skaters, damn those sequins.
Siblings, Alex and Maia Shibutani were once again performing their well-practised routine until their costumes physically attached them to one another and ended up tearing Maia’s tights.
Henrik Harlaut
So by now we already get the impression that the Winter Olympics is the place for malfunctions and accidents to steal the limelight for athletes.
During the 2014 games, Henrik Harlaut was taking part in the qualifying rounds for the men's freestyle skiing slopestyle when all of a sudden his trousers decided to take a break and end up around his ankles – luckily he was wearing nice underwear for the world to see.
American rowing team
Now this could be deemed as one of the most risqué kits of all time that went viral.
American rowing team stepped up to receive their bronze medals at the 2012 Olympic games only to find that his shorts left very little to the imagination.
Lycra is not the most flattering fabric and is definitely not one to wear if you want to hide anything.

Gillian Cooke
If you think it can’t get any worse than that then poor Gillian Cooke will correct you.
During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Gillian was about to partake in her bobsleigh race when her suit split right over her derrière and was caught on camera.
Gillian was a professional and laughed it off as she told The Sun:“It’s a good way to break the ice, especially with new team-mates — it always gets a laugh.”
Tom Daley
Finishing off with our very own Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist Tom Daley who lost his trunks as he took a dive into the water whilst competing.
In a YouTube video, Daley said how “by the time I hit the water, my trunks were literally around my ankles and of course it’s live on the big screen. So my bum comes up on the screen and I was absolutely mortified.” – It’s ok Tom, we forgive you.
So as the Olympics continue to take place in Tokyo, we wonder if we’ll see any more awkward accidents along the way.
