Four teens rushed to hospital as car smashes into garden wall at high speed

FIVE people, including four teenagers, have been rushed to hospital after a high speed crash with another car in the Yorkshire village of Towton.

The two vehicles collided on the A162 near Tadcaster just before 1am this morning. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, and four girls reported to be aged 16, were taken to hospital for treatment. He was driving a Ford Fiesta when he crashed into a parked VW Polo and a garden wall while the village was sleeping. 

Their injuries range from cuts and bruises to possible spinal injuries.

Firefighters, police and five ambulance crews rushed to the scene.

All five occupants of the car were treated at the scene before being transferred to hospital. 

Officers sealed off a section of the main A162 road while they dealt with the incident. 

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "Five ambulances and a clinical supervisor were dispatched to the scene and five patients were conveyed to Leeds General Infirmary."

Yorkshire Police said in a statement: "The driver and four teenage girls who were passengers in the Fiesta, were all taken to hospital for treatment to various injuries.

"Although some injuries are serious, none are believed to be life-threatening."

Dramatic photos showed crash debris scattered across the ground. 

Members of the public can be seen on the main road with emergency service workers.

Images released by the fire service showed the extent of the damage to the vehicles. 

The front of the Ford Fiesta, which the teenager was driving, was completely destroyed. 

The damaged car was pictured surrounded by bricks after it hit the wall causing it to crumble. 

A picture of the VW Polo, which did not have any occupants, also portrayed the serious damage caused to it. 

The front of the silver car was decimated and its front wheels were torn off.

A investigation into the crash is under way. 

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was not immediately clear if any of the crash victims had suffered spinal injuries.

He said: "Crews from Tadcaster have been called to a road traffic collision involving a Ford Fiesta which had collided with a parked VW Polo and a garden wall.

"Five occupants of the vehicle were out on our arrival."

The spokesman said all five people suffered "injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to possible spinal injuries".

He added: "Crews made both vehicles safe and administered first aid until the arrival of an ambulance."

The small village of Towton is located 14 miles northeast of Leeds.

The crash came after two people were injured when their car overturned in Thirsk, 30 miles north of Towton.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they were called to York Road in Thirsk shortly before 12.30pm yesterday.

The pair required treatment from paramedics after being pulled from the wreckage of their car, which ended up on its roof.

Their injuries were not serious.
