Mr Cool! Team USA sensation Jagger Eaton, 20, wins legion of fans for skateboarding with AIRPODS and his phone in his pocket!

American skateboarder Jagger Eaton caught the eye for a truly bizarre reason on a history-making day for the sport at the Tokyo Olympics.

Eaton, 20, took social media by storm after casually competing in the sweltering heat with his AirPods firmly fixated in his ears.

The cool, composed youngster set the initial score to beat in the preliminary round over the purpose-built concrete course, and did so in brilliant style.

Having qualified for Team USA's Olympic Street Team, Eaton impressed the panel of judges, who cast their verdict on difficulty, originality, speed, timing and execution.

In the street discipline, the athletes make timed runs over a course made up of slopes, stairs and rails - but an unfazed Eaton set off while listening to his own music.

And the eye-opening footage led to a host of Twitter users expressing their delight at the sight of the nonchalant competitor.

One account said: 'Jagger Eaton skating with his AirPods in and finishing his heat in first place... legend behaviour.'

Meanwhile, another wrote: 'Jagger Eaton looking for his AirPods after messing up a trick is crazy. Olympic skateboarding's weird.'

'Jagger Eaton is easily one of my favourite skateboarders to watch. So much energy,' added a third person.

'Can someone pls ask Jagger Eaton to drop his Spotify playlist or sum I wanna know what he's listening to (sic),' a fourth requested.

A fifth insisted that Eaton was 'feasting', but not everyone was left as enamoured by the athlete's style.

'The Arizonan Jagger Eaton is the worst dressed Olympian in the history of the Games', a sixth has argued.

Eaton recently opened up on achieving his long-term goal of reaching the Olympics, and admitted doing so achieved a family dream.

'That was always the main goal for gymnasts... making it to the Olympics and, for me, it was never not on the table,' Eaton said.

'The fact that I get the opportunity to do that for the family legacy is pretty special.'

Skateboarding will be held across four days of competition in Tokyo during its maiden year at the showpiece.

In the end, it was Japanese favourite Yuto Horigome who took the gold medal after he landed his final three tricks in superb fashion.

Kelvin Hoefler of Brazil took silver, while Eaton ultimately finished with the bronze.

All eyes were expected to be on Nyjah Huston, also of America, but he left Tokyo empty-handed in a big shock, having fallen repeatedly.

The sport has joined surfing and sports climbing this summer, with organisers and broadcastings aiming to attract new and younger audiences.
