The incident in Louisiana took place during a bloody weekend that was marked by multiple mass shootings.

On Sunday, three men were killed and three others were injured when gunfire erupted inside a tavern in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Police have since arrested 24-year-old Rakayo Vinson in connection with the incident.

On the same day, former sheriff's detective Stephen Broderick allegedly shot and killed his wife, their 16-year-old daughter and the girl's boyfriend, before going on the run. He was arrested early Monday following a manhunt.

Louisiana became the site of another mass shooting on Sunday, when several men opened fire at a gas station in Shreveport, leaving six men wounded, including one who was shot in the head and listed in critical condition.

Violence erupted at around 8.30pm on Saturday at a home in the 600 block of Golfview Drive in the New Orleans suburb on LaPlace, where some 60 youths gathered to celebrate a child’s birthday.

Sheriff Tregre complained that the investigation into the shooting has been 'frustrating' as detectives work to make arrests with no help from anyone who was there.

'We have not one witness, not one person that saw anything yet. So we’re trying to solve it on our own right now,' Tregre told the The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate. 'I’m going to be polite — it’s more than frustrating.'

He called for people who might have information to come forward.

Tregre said the department has received tips but no one has made a formal statement. He said the investigation will continue.
