Speaking to Variety about what he’s been doing in his downtime, Sprouse revealed he’d been playing the video games including Animal Crossing and appeared in the podcast Borrasca.

He explained how it came about in the first place, saying: “It’s much more like a radio play. Like those old school radio serials. So, it’s more of like a longform narrative piece.

“But it started the way a lot of those projects that you end up doing start, which is like a fascination to try out some voice acting.

“I’d never done voice acting before, not on this scale or calibre, so I wanted to try it out.”

On the plot for Borrasca, Sprouse said it was a viral sensation which developed a strong online following.

The production on Borrasca was completed shortly before quarantine started earlier this year.

He said of the premise: “I think in tone, it’s an atmospheric horror like The Haunting of Hill House.

“It has that same kind of claustrophobia, the environment itself is a large character within the piece and plays a huge role.

“It was fun, and it is a mystery. I don’t want to spoil too much about it but it’s a lot more grim than people think it’s going to be.”

Riverdale season 5 will premiere on The CW and Netflix UK in 2021
