A HOLIDAY resort in Greece just a few hours from Athens has welcomed celebs including Sean Connery and David Beckham - and you can stay there yourself for a fraction of the price.

Porto Heli, a seaside town south of the Greek capital, has been dubbed the "the Hamptons of Greece," due to attracting A-list celebs and even royals and billionaires.

While it is a three-hour ferry ride or drive from Athens, it is often accessed by helicopter, a quick 25 minute experience, by the elite.

The Beckhams, along with Dutch and Greek royal family members are thought to have holidayed there while Sean Connery, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovic and even President Putin are thought to own property at the resort.

It is home to two five-star hotels - Amanzoe, claimed to be one of the most expensive hotels in Europe back in 2014, as well as Nikki Beach, a luxury resort chain popular with A-listers.

It's popularity with the richer tourists has grown since the 1970s, according to locals.

A taxi driver from Porto Heli area told Forbes: "First, there was one rich person who came here, then they brought with them another rich person, and then that rich person brought another, and so on.”

Katerina Katopis, who runs marketing for Dolphin Capital which owns Amanzoe and Nikki Beach, previously said: "There is no other place in Greece with this concentration of wealth."

While you may be unlikely to spot any of the rich and the famous, who make the most of the private villas dotted around the resort, you can still stay in the area without paying the celeb-costs.

Airbnbs start from £47 per night in Port Heli while hotels such as Long View Resort Hammam & Spa and Hotel Rozos have rooms for under £50 per night.

Of course if you want the Hollywood star experience, rooms start from £913 at Aman Zoe - Nikki Beach prices range from £100 to £200 per night.

Mainland Greece, where Porto Heli is located, along with the islands of Rhodes, Kos and Corfu remain off the quarantine list for England right now.

We've rounded up some other great Greek holiday deals you can book right now as prices plummet 41 per cent due to the pandemic.

You can also stay at a number of private lodges and holiday homes which have greeted celebs including Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep for just £50pp, per night.

Closer to home is the island of Osea - popular with celebs such as Sienna Miller and Olly Murs, the 400-acre island is located in Essex.

If you can drop £252,000 on a holiday, you can spend a week at an exclusive resort in the Maldives, visited by Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner.
