“It’s gone by extraordinarily quickly,” says Erdem Moralıoğlu when asked how he feels about his brand’s 15th anniversary. “If I close my eyes, I can still imagine being a student at the Royal College putting together my graduate collection.
After over a decade, Erdem’s brand still operates independently, too, which is something of an anomaly in the industry. “I waited for the 10-year anniversary to open up our first store, because I wanted to be able to do it completely alone,” he says. “Often, there’s pressure to be at a certain pace, but taking your time and feeling your way through is a great thing.”
Ahead of his spring/summer 2022 spectacle, the designer reflects on 15 unforgettable moments from his illustrious career for“This was my first full collection and I showed it at the V&A,” says Erdem. “Also, it was the first that Barneys bought and was stocked in Madison Avenue and Beverly Hills – it meant that I was being taken seriously.”“This collection established a femininity that is so important,” explains the designer.
“Being able to work with Baz Luhrmann was such a highlight for me,” says Erdem. “It was the most surreal and amazing adventure.”8. Standing on the stage of the Royal Opera House and watching the ballet come to life in my costumes was incredible.
