The mother-of-three donned the £685 Stella McCartney number in a video to promote her photography project, mirroring Meghan Markle's choice of outfit for one of her final royal appearances. Propped up next to a window at her country mansion in Norfolk, Kate, 38, praised some of the "amazing" photos which have been submitted to the Hold Still project.

The Duchess of Cambridge appeared to wear minimal make up and her hair half up for the video, urging people to submit their entries to her community photography project.

Colour expert Gabriella Winters explained the meaning behind the shade known as "Egyptian blue".

She told Hello magazine: "Psychologically speaking, blue is the most popular colour in the entire world because of its non-threatening placid nature.

"It is the colour of peace and quiet and it signifies freedom.

"In the world of business, blue is the mark of formality and it symbolises one's loyalty and devotion to their work."

It was the fifth time Kate was spotted wearing the dress in public.

On each occasion, the royal wife has paired the frock with different accessories in order to mix things up.

In the latest video she paired the knee-length dress with drop down hoop earrings.

The shade of blue is similar to the Victoria Beckham below-the-knee dress that Meghan chose for her first appearance in the UK following her and Harry's decision to step down as senior royals.

The Duchess of Sussex chose the turquoise number which retails for £950.

Kate was first spotted sporting her blue dress back in 2012.

She wore it for a visit to the National Portrait Gallery before pulling it out of the wardrobe for another appearance the following month when she headed to the London 2012 Games.

On the second occasion, she wore the dress under a navy blazer with gold buttons.

And two years later she wore the exact same outfit to the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In 2016 the duchess again paired the blue dress with a navy blazer for a visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2016.

She kept her flowy locks back off her face with a hairband.
