Kate Middleton, 38, married Prince William, 37, at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have had three children together. Kate's body language reveals how her children are preparing for royal life.

Kate and Prince William announced their engagement in November 2010 and got married five months later.

The following year, the happy couple announced they were expecting their first child, and Prince George was born in 2013.

The couple are also the parents of Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two.

Kate seems to value the privacy of her children and they are not often spotted in public.

However, they will occasionally appear at royal events such as Trooping the Colour or at the royal Christmas Day church service.

When the Duchess of Cambridge and her children have been out in public more recently, body language expert Judi James suggested she seems more relaxed.

This has been more notable since Prince Louis was born in 2018, the expert added.

Judi explained: "Since Louis was born her ‘perfect’ smile has changed to suggest genuine delight with her three children.

DON'T MISS

“It’s now often a more relaxed-looking smile that borders on a laugh, with her mouth held open and cheek dimpling on display.

“She looks relaxed about her two other children as well, as though needing to worry less as they grow older, and she looks enchanted by the very confident and happy-looking Louis.”

In public appearances with her children, before the coronavirus lockdown, Kate seemed to show genuine happiness.

Her body language also suggests the mother-of-three may be less worried as her children get older.

Prince George is third in line to the British throne and it is likely he will one day be King one day.

Although he is still young, Prince George will probably already have an understanding of some parts of royal tradition.

Analysing pictures from Trooping the Colour in 2019, Judi suggested Kate may be training all of her children for their important role royal.

Last year was the first time that Prince Louis had ever attended the event that celebrates the Queen's official birthday.

The Cambridge family stood on the balcony at Buckingham Palace along with other royals.

Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were seen waving to the crowds showing they have already mastered the royal gesture.

Judi added: "The way Charlotte and Louis were both waving avidly suggests Kate is quietly training them for their royal role and making it fun at the same time.”

How did Kate Middleton become a royal?

Early life

Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, England.

She was born to Michael and Carole Middleton, a former flight dispatcher and air hostess. The couple founded a party supplies company, Party Pieces, in 1987 - now estimated to be worth £30 million.

Kate has a younger sister Pippa Matthews, 34, and a younger brother James Middleton, 31.

Education

Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, in 1984, where the future Duchess was educated at an English-speaking nursery school.

After moving back to Berkshire the family sent Kate to private school, St Andrews School. She went on to briefly study at Downe House before moving onto Marlborough College where she boarded.

For university the young Kate attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Here she was awarded an undergraduate MA (2:1 Hons) in history of art.

Relationship with Prince William

Kate met Prince William when they were both studying at St Andrews, and both living in St Salvator's Hall. Famously, William reportedly took a fancy to Kate after she wore a see-through dress during a fashion show.

In 2003 the couple began dating and lived together during their second year of university.

The couple split in April 2007, however, in October they were back together.

Wedding

Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother Princess Diana’s engagement ring in October 2010. The couple were holidaying in Kenya at the time.

On 29 April 2011 they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live.

Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress worth a reported £250,000 on the big day.

Kate assumed the title "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge" and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
