Game of Thrones' Kit Harington shares worrying update on Marvel's Eternals 'God knows!'

GAME OF THRONES' biggest star Kit Harington is set to star in upcoming blockbuster from Marvel Studios, The Eternals. Unfortunately, a recent video featuring Jon Snow himself has revealed a concerning production update about the next instalment in the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been forced to undergo considerable delays in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Their upcoming space adventure, The Eternals, is set to star Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Richard Madden, but the latest update reveals the HBO stars are being kept in the dark. The next blockbuster in the Marvel franchise is set to hit the big screen in February next year, but all that could change.

The Marvel series features some of Hollywood’s biggest studio releases, and so depend on a theatrical release to make back their considerable budgets and turn a profit.

Due to cinemas worldwide closing amid the current COVID-19 outbreak, upcoming Disney releases, including Marvel’s Black Widow and The Eternals, have been significantly delayed.

Rather than moving to Disney Plus, the superhero blockbusters have had their theatrical release dates pushed back some months, with The Eternals set to hit cinemas on February 12, 2021.

Intended as the 25th film in Marvel’s expansive franchise, The Eternals will introduce some of the most powerful characters to the ever-expanding roster of comic book heroes.

Among them are Ikaris (played by Richard Madden), an all-powerful Eternal, and Sersei (Gemma Chan) , a being with an affection for humans.

Game of Thrones’ star Kit Harington has also been cast as Dane Whitman, a human character who takes on the mantle of the Black Knight in Marvel’s original comics.

A recent video clip posted by Twitter user @purple_dwagon featured a brief interview with one of Marvel’s newest superheroes.

Although the new February release date has remained steady, the clip provided some worrying insight with The Eternal’s current stage of post-production.

Kit Harington revealed: “That’s done, it’s filmed, it’s just… God knows what’s going on with it!”

The Game of Thrones star then joked: “I don’t know what’s happening on anything right now.”

Principal photography was luckily completed earlier this year, just over a month before the coronavirus lockdown postponed film production across the globe.

However, Marvel films require extensive work in the post-production stage, including some of Hollywood’s best visual effects in addition to the usual processes of editing and sound mixing.

Moreover, Black Widow was originally intended to be released in May 2020, but is currently eying a November release.

Kit Harington’s comments could suggest there are more updates to come from the studio as the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to continue for some months.

The news follows a recent trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated sci-fi action film Tenet, which is still maintaining an IMAX release date of July 17th 2020.

Some critics have considered Warner Bros.’ decision to retain its theatrical release as highly reckless considering some lockdown restrictions have remained in place in several countries.

With major studios such as Disney withholding upcoming releases from streaming alternatives, it could be some time before audiences get the chance to see some of 2020 and 2021’s most anticipated new movies.

Black Widow and The Eternals are set to kick off Marvel’s Phase Four, which will also include new instalments in the Thor, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange franchises.

Marvel’s next slate will also feature the series’ first Asian-led film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, starring Simu Liu as the titular martial arts hero.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on NowTV. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is available on Disney Plus.
