Looking for somewhere warm for your spring holiday? Keen to know which country is hot in April? Decided not to do that UK staycation after all? Look no further. Your next dose of sand and vitamin C is only a plane ride away...

1) Banjul, The Gambia (temperatures highs of 33°C)

This gorgeous pocket of Africa is only a 6-hour plane ride away from London and runs on UK time – meaning you'll swerve any jet lag and have more time to chill out on one of their famed white sandy beaches. There's sun all year round, with a very respectable ten hours of it per day in April, and has earned the nickname "The Smiling Coast" for good reason. For more information on The Gambia, check out our guide of what to do, where to stay and the best places to eat there.

2) Isla Holbox, Mexico (temperatures highs of 32°C)

While plenty of other places in Mexico, including Cancun, also have temperatures up in the 30s, we have a special place in our hearts for the magical island of Holbox. Picture it now: wild flamingoes, crystal clear water and hammocks strung up between palm trees. It's truly a picture perfect destination. 3) Orlando, Florida (temperatures highs of 29°C)

Not that you need another reason to want to visit the Universal Studios Resort or Disney World, but if you head over to Orlando (A.K.A. Theme Park Heaven) in April then you're pretty much guaranteed good weather. Florida is known as "The Sunshine State", after all. Naturally, we've also written a guide of all our favourite literal hot spots for you to peruse. You're welcome.

4) Dubai, United Arab Emirates (temperatures highs of 33°C)

Fun fact: Dubai has some the most decadent brunches on the planet, as well as plenty of manmade beaches and countless malls to shop in. Whilst it's certainly not the best place to go for a cheap and cheerful break, it can always be relied on for a mix of dessert treks, skyscraper views, a buzzing night life scene and general all-round fanciness. 5) Marrakech, Morocco (temperatures highs of 25°C)

While not the hottest on this list, if you're looking for a cultural hit that doesn't require you to wear a jacket, then Marrakech is the perfect location. With the magical open-air souk markets, the Atlas Mountains (with incredible waterfalls and wild monkeys) and awesome local cuisine (hello tagine, we see you) all on your doorstep, it's a must see destination.

6) Hurghada, Egypt (temperatures highs of 28°C)

Usually when you think of Egypt, it's likely that ancient pyramids or the Sphinx spring to mind – whilst those historical landmarks are iconic in their own right, the country has so much more to offer. The city of Hurghada is situated on the Red Sea Coast of Egypt, making it perfect for snorkelling, beach or boat trips (if you're lucky you might spot a dolphin!) and is within easy travelling distance to plenty of other ruins sites, such as the Karnak temple, if you still fancy a history hit. It's also a short boat journey away from Orange Bay, a little known Caribbean island, which as you can see from the Instagram snap below is paradise personified. 7) Las Vegas, Nevada (temperatures highs of 27°C)

The city of sin is also one guaranteed to be choc-full of sunshine, given that it only averages one rainy day during the month of April. Remember, there's more to do in LV than fritter away all your money in the casinos (although, that's pretty fun too) – why not try a Grand Canyon tour, snap up tickets for a legendary show or try one of the all-you-can-eat buffets? Here are Cosmopolitan's best places to party, brunch and explore in Las Vegas.

8) Lanzarote, Canary Islands (temperatures highs of 22°C)

The warmest of the Canary Islands at this time of year, Lanzarote is a great spot to visit if you're on a tighter budget. Famed for its pumping nightlife, it also boasts forty plus beaches and surfing opportunities, meaning there's plenty to keep you busy. If Lanzarote isn't quite your bag, Gran Canaria averages a respectable 18°C high in April – check out our Gran Canaria guide, if you fancy knowing more about a palm tree-laden city that just loves Segways.

9) Paphos, Cyprus (temperatures highs of 21°C)

It's a common misconception that Cyprus is little more than lairy stag dos, but actually, Paphos, on the island's South West coast, is full of beautiful coastline, Instagram-friendly hotels and amazing ancient ruins. Here's our every budget guide on where to stay, day trip and explore.
