Brexiteer lets rip at Labour and Lib Dems for 'insulting' Leavers in general election

A FED-UP Brexiteer confronted two Remainers who want a second referendum and argued Labour and the Liberal Democrats have been insulting Leavers.

Brexit: Conservative backer says that Leavers feel ’insulted’

Sky News’ Path to Power show had a Brexiteer Tory voter, Green Remainer and Labour Remainer discussing the future of Brexit. Retired lecturer Tony Mitchell argued Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal should be put to the people in a second referendum and doing so would no be undemocratic. However, Tory voting Brexiteer Rosemary Naish mocked the idea, arguing the logic would lead to endless referendums.

She added the Liberal Democrats and Labour Party have been insulting Brexiteers by suggesting a second referendum or revoking Brexit.

Mr Mitchell said: “Can I take up this point about the Brexit vote and democracy?

“I feel there was a very small majority for Brexit in 2016.

“That was voting on whether we wanted to leave the EU, the people did not say on what terms we would leave.

“The Theresa May deal was voted down and I believe Johnson voted against that.

“We now have the Boris Johnson deal and I think that should be submitted to the people to have a view on that.”

Ms Naish replied: “Well I say, is this men’s tennis or women’s tennis?

“Are we going to have the best of three or the best of five.”

The Sky News host noted many people may relish in the opportunity to have another say on the Brexit matter as things have changed since 2016.

Ms Naish responded: “No, I don’t think so.

Election: Johnson says only 'working majority' will deliver Brexit

“I think the majority of people feel they are beginning to feel quite insulted that the views that they had are being completely ignored by the two parties, Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party.

The Labour voter answered: “I don’t think I agree.

“I think more and more people are realising that they made a decision not based on a lot of facts and some of the facts have been discredited.”

Ms Naish had the final word on the conversation and replied to both voters by saying: “Well, I would prefer democracy.

“I would rather be a prisoner of democracy than a prisoner of despotism.”

During a speech in Staffordshire on Tuesday, Mr Johnson insisted that under a Tory government Brexit would be quickly resolved.

The Prime Minister also attacked Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party for their attitudes towards Brexit.

He noted that he could not think of a single Labour Cabinet member who has publicly said they would support his supposed new Brexit deal.
