Yemeni rebels said they were set to begin a unilateral withdrawal from the lifeline port of Hodeida on Saturday in a bid to kickstart ...

HODEIDA: A senior pro-government official in Yemen accused Huthi rebels of faking an announced pullout on Saturday from three Red Sea ports, as a UN source said monitoring of the much delayed withdrawal in Hodeida province was underway.

But Taher contended the Huthis were merely reshuffling personnel and accused the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, of trumpeting non-existent progress on the ground. There was no independent confirmation of a rebel withdrawal from the docks at Hodeida, Saleef - a minor port earmarked for development - or Ras Issa, an export terminal for the oilfields in Marib province."The UN hopes soon to be in a position to report to the Security Council on actual movements on the ground."

He accused the government of delaying a parallel pullback from parts of the city of Hodeida that it had pledged to make under a December truce. But although the fighting has largely stopped, there have been intermittent clashes and the promised redeployment of the warring parties away from the front lines has failed to materialise."We ... warn of attempts by the militia to mislead the international community and the Security Council before the next meeting," Moammer al-Eryani tweeted.

Yemeni workers unload wheat provided by the UN childrens's agency in Hodeida in January, 2018, before fighting for the lifeline aid port erupted between the rebels and the Saudi-backed government in June.
