Cycling's world governing body the UCI said on Thursday it was furloughing its entire staff, either fully or partially, in a bid to"weather the storm" caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Other measures agreed include the reimbursement of all calendar registration fees for cancelled events in a"show of solidarity" for organisers. Many races have been cancelled while others such as the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege have been postponed, as has the UCI Mountain Bike Cross-country World Championships in Germany.

"Inactivity is hitting athletes, teams, organisers, partners and the large majority of people and organisations that contribute to the vitality of our sport, across all its disciplines," UCI President David Lappartient said.
