Supermarkets to charge 5¢–10¢ per disposable plastic bag come mid-2023, NEA seeking public feedback

A 2018 study found that shoppers in Singapore take an average of 146 disposable carrier bags from supermarkets per person per year.

How did the proposal come about? The Workgroup made their recommendations in January 2021, and one of them was to impose a charge on disposables. The disposable carrier bag which is subject to the charging modelBags without handles and used to contain loose quantities of fresh or raw food, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood, that are sold without packaging, will not be charged under the new policy.

Environmental reasons thats why no straws or plastic bags? But what about all the plastic Covid ART kits? Next problem will be throw away left over food directly to the rubbish bin. This is created by our NEA! How to throw rubbish at home 😅 Supermarket bags in Spore are reused to hold household trash (leftover food, gravy, discards from raw meat, seafood etc) in hot humid Spore, these will start to rot within an hour. how to store and discard these without a waterproof (not paper) bag?

Went to certain shop asking need bag, tat will cost 20 cents, end up is paper bag not plastic! So what is this about? As long as is bags cost money? It's all about money ! You can jolly well announce that WE ARE NOT USING PLASTIC ANYMORE ! IF YOU WANT TO SHOP , BRING YOUR OWN BAG ! Just another ploy by big corporates to increase their already fat profits.

Use the money to incentivize usage of own grocery bags. BYOB!!! Order online loh... NEAsg seeking public feedback. Sure bo? Our feedback taken seriously meh? Dun make saggy tits laugh la. Until we find another way to throw thrash without using a plastic bag, it won’t make much of a difference.

This is not abt plastics. This is abt 'ethical consumption', this makes consumers FEEL less guilt abt consumption so they end up consuming more. 在深圳的超市買東西另外是要付款買袋子的。 Bring your own re-usable bag. well yeah but if i dont use a plastic bag im going to be stopped for 'shoplifting' and it gets frustrating tbh

then toss the unwanted food waste directly down the chute? doubt anyone will purposely buy trash bags for that... recycling grocery bags to store food waste has been around in Singapore even before the western world thought about the recycling trend. Mid 2022 please
