BREAKING: Singapore reports youngest ever COVID fatality, 1.5-year-old baby boy

The boy's cause of death was encephalitis – inflammation of the brain – due to the novel coronavirus as well as respiratory syncytial virus and enterovirus, both of which are common viruses, according to the Ministry of Health on Monday .The MOH said the boy had no other past medical history and was previously well.

MOH said the boy tested positive on a polymerase chain reaction test for COVID-19. He also tested positive for rhinovirus/enterovirus and respiratory syncytial virus. The ministry said it, along with the Health Sciences Authority and the expert committee on COVID-19 vaccination, will study the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines that have been formulated for young children aged under five once manufacturers submit documents for evaluation.
