The search and rescue operation for retired lawyer Tan Eng Soon , 62, was called off due to “a lack of new clues”.

The search and rescue operation for retired lawyer Tan Eng Soon, 62, was called off due to “the lack of new clues” following the discovery of the body of Josephine Puah Geok Tin, 57, said the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in a press release issued in Malay on Monday.Puah’s remains were found last Wednesday in the waters off Terengganu and repatriated to Singapore two days later.

First Maritime Admiral Aminuddin Haji Abdul Rashid, director of the Johor maritime division, said that the RM431,380 operation involved 155 personnel, five air assets and 11 sea assets from multiple agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Navy, and Malaysia Civil Defence Force.

The MMEA said last Thursday that the search for Tan covered an area of about 500 nautical square miles in the vicinity where Puah’s body and the duo’s missing kayak was found. A green kayak was found early last week by a fisherman more than 80 nautical miles away from where Tan and Puah were last seen.
