WASHINGTON - US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday she does not have confidence in White House coronavirus task force coordinator Dr Deborah Birx, linking her to disinformation about the virus spread by President Donald Trump.
Dr Birx, asked about Ms Pelosi's comment during an interview with CNN's State of the Union, said she had great respect for Ms Pelosi and attributed the criticism to a New York Times article on the White House pandemic response that described Dr Birx as having embraced overly optimistic assessments on the virus.
"I will stake my 40-year career on those fundamental principles of using data to implement better programmes and save lives." According to a report in Politico, Ms Pelosi attacked Dr Birx's credibility during a meeting last week with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.
