HONG KONG: Operations resumed at Hong Kong airport early on Tuesday morning, airport authorities said, with flights expected to begin arriving and taking off in the coming hour after protests shut down the travel hub.

Throughout the evening, protesters gradually left the airport, but there was no police operation to clear them by force.By Tuesday morning, many of the posters and signs the protesters had placed throughout the terminals had been taken down, but graffiti - some reading"an eye for an eye" - had not yet been cleared.

The United States urged"all sides" to refrain from violence and Canada called on Beijing to show restraint. Other flights, within Asia and beyond, are scheduled throughout Tuesday morning but many were still shown as cancelled.
