New Zealand reported 83 locally acquired cases on Sunday (Aug 29) of the highly infectious Delta coronavirus variant, with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern saying that some changes on how the outbreak is manag

, with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern saying that some changes on how the outbreak is managed could be announced on Monday.

Of the Sunday cases, 82 were reported in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, and the other was in the capital, Wellington. Of the current community cases, 34 people were in hospital and two of them in intensive care. Active community cases stand at 511, with 496 of them in Auckland.

Looks like the COVID-19 situation is deteriorating in New Zealand. What has happened? It used to manage the pandemic COVID-19 excellently well. Is it because of its proximity with Australia which is now experiencing high Covid-19 infections?

This pretty much shows that chasing a zero covid policy only delays the inevitable, and highlights the folly of not expediting vaccinations.

It shows it is almost impossible to contain delta by social distancing. Yet, we must keep strict SD as possible with aggressive vaccination.
