ROME - Fragments of the monkeypox virus have been detected in semen in a handful of patients in Italy, raising questions over whether sexual transmission of the disease is a possibility, scientists said on Monday .
Researchers at the Spallanzani Institute, a Rome-based hospital and infectious disease research facility first highlighted evidence of the monkeypox virus in semen in four patients in Italy in a report on June 2. "However... having an infectious virus in semen is a factor that tips the balance strongly in favour of the hypothesis that sexual transmission is one of the ways in which this virus is transmitted," he said.
The outbreak has triggered concern since the virus is rarely seen outside of Africa, where it is endemic, and the majority of cases are not related to travel to the continent.Scientists are scrambling to understand what is driving the current outbreak, its origins and whether anything about the virus has changed.

Long queues for passports at ICA building on first day of new rules restricting walk-insSINGAPORE: There were long queues inside the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) building on Monday (Jun 13), the first day of new rules permitting walk-ins from only certain passport applicants. Only those who have been notified to collect their passports, submit supporting documen It is shocking that ICA was not prepared for this, knowing that there will be a rush to travel after opening up. Very poor planning, all sleeping. And getting pay rise. Wake up your idea!! 🙄🙄🙄 excusesaplenty ICA caught in a bind. Poor planning and lack of anticipation..2 yrs of Covid lockdown and they did not prepare for it. There should have been better ideas to deal with it.. Just look at the causeway jams..same excuses. 2 yrs of lockdown in travel and nothing new in terms of improvement. Same excuse of “we will not compromise on security” - the public knows that. We are talking about efficiencies.
