SINGAPORE — A 32-year-old man was fined S$5,000 on Thursday (Jan 20) for assaulting another man who had tried to intervene in his dispute with a fellow nightclub patron.

Tyson Wayne Plant, a British citizen, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt to Mr Nick Macaulay three years ago.

The court heard that he had gone to the now-defunct Kilo Lounge in the Tanjong Pagar area on Aug 18, 2018 at about 1am with a friend. Mr Macaulay, who was also standing outside Kilo Lounge at the time, tried to de-escalate the situation by intervening. But as he began to walk away, Plant approached him and headbutted his face.

He sought medical attention that same day at Changi General Hospital and was given 14 days of medical leave.
