LONDON: Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard labelled Philippe Coutinho"invaluable" after the Brazilian star completed a medical ahead of a loan move from Barcelona.

The 29-year-old is expected to join his new team-mates at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground on Wednesday. "His presence will be invaluable, given injuries and the AFCON tournament have reduced our attacking options," Gerrard told Villa's website on Monday. Villa have signed Coutinho on loan for the rest of the season and have the option to buy him in the summer.
