Indonesian police investigate palm oil companies over forest fires: Ministry

JAKARTA - Indonesian police are investigating three palm oil companies on suspicion of starting fires on Borneo island, where environmentalists say extensive deforestation has occurred to make way for plantations, a government ministry has said.

Sani identified the three companies designated as suspects by their company initials, SKM, ABP and AER. Fires are burning on a combined area of 4,700ha in the concessions awarded to the three suspect companies and the 24 other companies linked to forest fires, Sani said.
