Meant to be one of the greatest days of their lives, a couple's wedding reception turned into a nightmare when the groom suffered a life-changing injury.

Michael Schultz and Kelsey Mynatt, who had eloped just weeks earlier, were celebrating with friends and family on October 1 last year when tragedy struck as the pair hit the dance floor. "Mike attempted his party trick which is a backflip on the dance floor which he technically landed," Kelsey explained. "But he slipped on the floor because there were drinks spilled and he was in dress shoes that have no traction.""In a split second my world turned upside down," she said on TikTok.

Michael hit his head, suffering significant trauma and was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to relieve swelling and pressure on his brain. The 28-year-old has been in the ICU in the US city of Denver since, spending one month in a coma. While he is making considerable improvements, including learning to talk and walk again, he has a long way to go.
