Fun With Kids: SpongeBob SquarePants turns 25, Prophecy Of The Underworld books

SpongeBob SquarePants turns 25Launched on Nickelodeon on July 17 in 1999, the titular character and his undersea friends, such as Patrick Star, have become some of the world’s most recognised cartoon stars.“SpongeBob SquarePants combines creator Stephen Hillenburg’s love of the ocean with his passion for animation and love of quirky character comedy,” American actor Tom Kenny, who voices SpongeBob, said in a press statement.

To mark the series’ silver jubilee, Nickelodeon will roll out anniversary specials throughout the year. It will also release new episodes from July 22 to Aug 2 on weekdays at 5.30pm. The teen and his sidekicks find themselves embarking on missions in fantasy-adventure novel series Prophecy Of The Underworld by local author Low Ying Ping.

“The series is inspired by books and movies about heroes going on quests, especially fantasy ones, and game books that I played when I was young, such as Lone Wolf and GrailQuest,” the 46-year-old told The Straits Times.
