7 hours ago‘The Masked Singer': Raccoon Explains His Infatuation With Judge Jenny McCarthy(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.”) “The Masked Singer” cut another contestant from its Season 5 lineup this week — and added a new one via the show’s new “Wildcard” round. Raccoon was the unlucky competitor who got ousted by the crashing singer, Orca, and was eliminated and unmasked to reveal actor Danny Trejo. But Trejo was lucky in that he at least got to perform twice in front of his idol Jenny McCarthy before he was booted. And he made sure to tell her — repeatedly — just how much he loved her while in character as the playful Raccoon. Ahead of tonight’s big reveal, Trejo told TheWrap the heartwarming reason behind his love for McCarthy. “Jenny McCarthy is an advocate for at-risk children and I work with at-risk children,” the actor said. “So anytime a celebrity gets involved in something, it puts a light on it. It’s sad, but that’s the only way that we can get people aware of what is going on. The Los Angeles city schools are falling short of dealing with special needs children, and people like Jenny McCarthy really can put a light on it. We love her.” Also Read: 'The Masked Singer' Eliminates First Contestant Via 'Wildcard' Round: And the Raccoon Is... “And it’s OK, because I can beat up her husband,” Trejo joked, referring to McCarthy’s spouse, Donnie Wahlberg. The Raccoon’s true identity wasn’t guessed by McCarthy or any of her fellow “Masked Singer” panelists before he was unveiled Wednesday. Instead, the judges thought he might be either Gary Busey, Danny DeVito, Tony Danza or Sylvester Stallone. Trejo found those picks hilarious because he said he’s “worked with every one of those people.” “And for a while they said Jon Voight, and he was in my first movie, ‘Anaconda,'” he said. Beyond getting the chance to express his infatuation with McCarthy, Trejo said he valued his time on “The Masked Singer” because it let him go “berserk” on set. Also Read: 'The Masked Singer' Unmasks Another Hidden Celeb: And the Phoenix Is... “I don’t think I’ve ever had that much fun, just outright being crazy,” he said. “Because on a movie set, there’s a certain etiquette. You can’t really go berserk. You can, but you won’t last long. But [on the show] it’s like, it didn’t matter what I did, nobody cared.” “The Masked Singer” airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox. 8 hours ago‘The Masked Singer’ Eliminates First Contestant Via ‘Wildcard’ Round: And the Raccoon Is…(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.”) “The Masked Singer” featured its much-anticipated first “Wildcard” round on this week’s episode of Season 5, when surprise contestant Orca came in and stole the show — literally. That celeb joined in the fun at the last minute, taking away the slot of Group A competitor Raccoon, who was eliminated from the competition and unmasked at the end of the episode. Following last week’s introduction of Group B — which now consists of Grandpa Monster, Chameleon, Black Swan and Piglet, after Phoenix was cut from the lineup and revealed to be Caitlyn Jenner — Group A contestants Russian Doll, Snail, Raccoon, Seashell and Robopine (f.k.a. Porcupine) took the stage again. They each gave their second performances in front of judges Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger, along with guest host Niecy Nash (filling in for Nick Cannon, who is recovering from COVID-19) and guest judge Joel McHale. Once they were done, the “Wildcard” round began, with surprise contestant Orca making his grand entrance by singing Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Also Read: 'The Masked Singer': Raccoon Explains His Infatuation With Judge Jenny McCarthy Then it was time for the judges and at-home audience to cast their votes for Wednesday’s top contestant. The performer who came out on the bottom was Raccoon, who sang “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash. Before the Raccoon was unmasked, Thicke guessed the contestant was Tony Danza (and so did McHale), Scherzinger picked Sylvester Stallone, Jeong said Danny DeVito and McCarthy thought Gary Busey. The Raccoon turned out to be actor Danny Trejo. Readers can find TheWrap’s interview Trejo about his time on “The Masked Singer” here. After last week’s elimination of Jenner’s Phoenix and the premiere’s cut of Snail, who turned out to be Kermit the Frog, there are now eight remaining contestants, due to the fact that Orca took over Raccoon’s slot in Group A via Wednesday’s “Wildcard” round. Per Fox, “The season five contestants boast a combined 26 Grammy nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Academy Award nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records.” “The Masked Singer” airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox.
