The latest regulations, which came into effect at 11.59pm on Thursday, seek to give legal force to safe distancing measures announced by the multi-ministry task force tackling the coronavirus pandemic in Singapore.. Read more at straitstimes.com.

SINGAPORE - From Friday , people in Singapore who intentionally sit down less than 1m away from another person in a public place or on a fixed seat marked as not to be occupied, or who stand in a queue less than 1m away from another person, will be guilty of an offence.

These limit gatherings outside of work and school to 10 persons or fewer, and ensure that physical distancing of at least one metre is maintained in non-transient settings such as at coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping malls. Also banned during this period are enrichment activities or tuition for children 18 years of age and below at an enrichment or tuition centre or sporting facility, and the provision of goods, entertainment or services at bars, karaoke lounges, nightclubs or discotheques.

They must allow natural ventilation of the premises during the event, take the body temperature of every person attending to determine whether they are febrile, and obtain their contact details to facilitate contact tracing measures.

As a person who has been called 'anti-social' in the past and a self confessed ochlophobic and germaphobe this is heaven

How about those people who are hoarding?! FINE THEM!

I'm sitting 1cm from the next person on the train. Joke law.

Bring along your tape measurement if you do not want to risk getting a fine! Do the math... $2 vs $10k!!

There'll be shortage of prisons

Give money to citizen. Now time to take money back

Picking and choosing on social distancing places . What about mrt trains? At least we spent 30-40mins point to point.

Its a good practice. But its impossible to implement it everywhere. Thousands of them are gonna be fined or jailed...

Just not feasible

This is probably the dumbest law to be enacted in the history of this country

How about train n bus ride? Till now i have no justified answer from the ministry. How to be social distance during peak hours? Can’t even get a distance of 0.3 metre. Not all workers are fortunate n employers to hv staggered hrs for staff, work fm home, etc. pls advise. TQ. 🙏

In the public transport now and no safe distancing. How?

Not trying on the negative side. You go to neighbourhoods coffee shops and hawker centers...like this sure many will be jailed...

Public transport?

How about escalators? 🤔
