In May, a laboratory here declared 33 cases as positive for Covid-19, but the results were later found to be false. The error was caused by an apparatus calibration issue for one of the test kits at the lab between May 5 and 9.

Subsequent retesting at the National Public Health Laboratory confirmed that the cases were actually negative. Following the incident, Associate Professor Kenneth Mak, MOH's director of medical services, said on May 12 that advisories would be issued to all laboratories conducting coronavirus tests to ensure that test results are accurate.
