SHANGHAI - China's Wenzhou city will reopen entrances and exits of highways, and cancel some highway checkpoints to support economic recovery during the coronavirus outbreak, according to a post on social media from the city government on Thursday .
Wenzhou entered a state of lockdown late in January as authorities attempted to curb the spread of the coronavirus that is sweeping across China. The commercial hub in east China's Zhejiang province is the most affected city outside central Hubei province. It is more than 800km away by road from Wuhan, the epicentre in Hubei.
On Feb 2, Wenzhou restricted the movement of residents and closed roads, in the most drastic steps taken by authorities outside the epicentre. Only one resident per household is allowed to go out every two days to buy necessities in the city of nine million, while 46 highway toll stations have been closed.
