He soaked his feet in dry ice for over 10 hours in order to feign frostbites severe enough to warrant a double amputation.

Evidence of Chang sinking his feet into a pail of dry ice taken by his fraud accomplice and obtained by the Taiwanese authorities.

Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau said the student, surnamed Chang, conspired with his former high school classmate, surnamed Liao, to orchestrate the fraud. They wanted to create the impression that Chang had suffered frostbite after riding on a motorcycle on a wintry night. Investigators from Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office found that Chang had frostbite injuries that were abnormally symmetrical and without imprint from his shoes or socks.
