SHANGHAI : Leaders of China's government and the Communist Party have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with vaccines made in China, a health official said on Saturday .

Zeng Yixin, deputy head of China's National Health Commission, made the remarks at a press conference, without identifying the political leaders he mentioned. China has maintained a"dynamic zero-COVID" policy of containing outbreaks as soon as they emerge, even though its strict measures in response to the highly transmissible Omicron variant have disrupted local businesses and clouded the outlook for the world's second-largest economy.

Persistent outbreaks and more closures could add pressure on the world's second-largest economy, which contracted sharply in the second quarter from the first after widespread COVID-19 lockdowns jolted industrial production and consumer spending.
