"When the air traffic recovers, and we expect this to be in 2024... then the key challenge will be traffic and demand increasing faster than the capacity that can be built," said Mr Stefano Baronci, director-general of Airports Council International Asia-Pacific.restart work on T5 after a two-year pause,

He noted that bigger airports equipped with automated systems - and that run sustainably - are needed to handle the projected growth in air traffic.He said forecasts by ACI World show that from now till 2040, air traffic in Asia-Pacific is expected to grow at 4.7 per cent annually and in the Middle East, 5.2 per cent annually. These numbers mean the two regions will have the most growth in air traffic globally.ACI Asia-Pacific is one of the five regions under the association.

Although details are not available yet, the updated design of T5 will be more modular and flexible, with improved sustainability. The terminal is set to be operational by mid-2030s.
