sg/wA47 VILNIUS, LITHUANIA (REUTERS) - A United Nations report into the forced diversion of a Ryanair jetliner last year has found that a bomb threat which drew the plane to Minsk was"deliberately false" and that Belarus withheld crucial information from its fact-finding team. The UN's International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) set up a specialist fact-finding team in May 2021, days after following what it described as a bomb threat. The scams involve fake advertisements on Google Search that would appear when the user searches for bank contact numbers. Dissident Belarus journalist Roman Protasevich and his Russian girlfriend were detained in Minsk following the diversion, which took place shortly before the jet was due to leave Belarus airspace, prompting international uproar. In view of their results, the researchers argue that better public information about nocebo responses may improve Covid vaccine uptake by reducing the concerns that make some people hesitant. Protasevich's girlfriend Sofia Sapega has since been charged with inciting social hatred and could face up to 12 years in prison, while he remains under house arrest. The victims who search for the banks’ contact numbers via Google Search would then see the scam advertisements appearing as the first few search results. The report, sent to Icao's 193 member states on Monday (Jan 17), said Belarus authorities did not properly contact Ireland-based Ryanair about the alleged bomb threat, despite regulations urging them to do so, and did not help crew talk to their base. "An interim update to our employees is still being worked on and the company remains committed to continuing to provide periodic updates on its progress," the company said in a statement to Reuters.

The pilots agreed to divert to Minsk after a Belarus air traffic controller declared"code red", indicating a credible threat to the aircraft necessitating an immediate landing. These scam advertisements would provide a fake contact number for victims to contact.” Kaptchuck and Dr Julia Haas at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston analysed adverse events reported during a dozen clinical trials of Covid vaccines. It is improbable that Ryanair would have agreed to declare"code red" in the circumstances, said the report, which concluded that the bomb threat was"deliberately false". No person or state has been identified as the source of an apparently illegal hoax, it said. Impersonating bank officials In this case, they would share the reasons for contacting the bank and then, the scammers would tell victims that there are issues with their bank account, credit or debit cards or loan amount. European Union leaders and human rights groups have accused Belarus of fabricating the bomb threat in order to lure the plane to its territory and enable the arrest of Protasevich. Writing in the journal Jama Network Open , the researchers describe how after the first injection more than 35% of those in the placebo groups experienced so-called “systemic” side-effects, such as headache and fatigue, with 16% reporting site-specific ailments including arm pain or redness or swelling at the injection site. Belarus has said it acted legally and in accordance with all international norms, and accused the West of trying to use the episode to try to undermine President Alexander Lukashenko. In some cases, victims would receive an SMS with headers spoofing that of the bank to appear more authentic. Whether a comment about culture, an incident or suggested improvements, every report the company receives matters, Activision said.

A Belarus presidential spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Icao report. Citing a pilot witness, the report said a search for the alleged bomb inside the cabin on the ground in Minsk was cursory and took just 18 minutes to complete. Image from SPF. When the researchers looked at side-effects after the second jab, they found the rate of headaches or other systemic symptoms was nearly twice as high in the vaccine group compared with the placebo group, at 61% and 32% respectively. Emergency services were told to stand down before the search was over and before the baggage hold was opened for checks, it said. Despite the supposed threat, disembarking passengers took 30 minutes and the pilot was allowed to remain onboard, it said. May be more dangerous now This scam method might be more dangerous after the recent OCBC phishing scams became prominent in the news. Icao also laid out lapses in co-operation with its mission. While evidence suggests that information about side-effects can cause people to misattribute common ailments to the vaccine, or make people hyper-alert to how they are feeling, Kaptchuk argues for more information about side-effects, not less.

Its team"was not provided with a satisfactory rationale to explain why records had not been preserved" considering that local criminal and other investigations were under way. But he may then fall victim to this Google Search scam which lures in victims with a fake bank number. Belarus also refused to provide access to the controller of the Ryanair flight or to the call records of officials, nor did it provide footage from well-placed airport cameras. They should also not transfer funds into bank accounts belonging to someone you do not know and not disclose your personal information or banking details and OTP to anyone. Honesty is the way to go. It cited data from a Switzerland-registered e-mail provider as showing the e-mail was sent only after the jet had begun its descent towards Minsk. Belarus told the investigation it received the e-mail 30 minutes earlier but provided only a screenshot as a proof.
