2 men arrested for assaulting and robbing 63-year-old man of handphone at Jurong West

Two men, aged 23 and 44, have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 63-year-old man at Jurong West.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted on May 31 at about 12.45am to a case of robbery where the victim was allegedly assaulted and robbed by two men along Jurong West Street 52.

The men purportedly took the victim's handphone before fleeing.

Officers established the identity of the two men and arrested them within six hours of the reported crime.

The victim's handphone was recovered upon the men's arrest.

They will be charged in court on Wednesday (June 1) with voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.

The offence carries a jail term of between five to 20 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
